1. Propagation of Horticultural Crop

A two-day training entitled “Propagation of Horticultural Crop” was conducted at Anjali Nursery, Hetauda-6, Makwanpur (one of the horticulture resource centers of the project) on February 1-2, 2024. The main objective of the training was to enhance the skill and knowledge of nurserymen, gardeners, and farmers on propagation procedures of horticultural crops. A total of 18 people participated in the training program, of which 10 were female and 8 were male. The training session included both theoretical and practical sessions. The theoretical parts included an overview of different types of propagation practiced in horticultural plants, their advantages, and disadvantages. We discussed different types of media that can be used in propagating different crops. The trainers also demonstrated different propagation procedures like grafting, layering, and cutting. Similarly, the use of different modern and locally available media was demonstrated. A brief discussion on the preparation of vermicompost and types of vermi worms was done. Likewise, practical sessions on the preparation of vermi pits, vermicomposting, and rearing of vermi worms were demonstrated. The participants actively practiced in all those activities and were confident in replicating the knowledge. Similarly, similar training was conducted at Parijat Nursery, Banganga-8, Kapilbastu, which is also one of the horticulture resource centers of the project. A total of 20 people participated in the training program, of which 10 were female and 10 were male. 

  1. Entrepreneurship development 

A one-day training entitled “Entrepreneurship Development” was conducted at Anjali Nursery, Hetauda-6, Makwanpur and Parijat Nursery, Kapilvastu on 28th February and 23rd March 2024 respectively. The main objective of the training was to enhance the skill and knowledge of farmers on entrepreneurship aspects. A total of 36 farmers participated in the training program, of which 21 were female and 15 were male. The training session included both theoretical and practical sessions. The theoretical parts included the basics of entrepreneurship, agriculture loan acquisition from banks and business strategies. We also discussed the company’s registration and renewal process and documentation of loan process for banks. The trainers also had theoretical class on swot analysis and business plan preparation. In practical session, farmers had done exercises on swot analysis and business plan in a team. One from each team shared their main results among the participants. In overall, participants were actively involved in all the sessions and confident in replicating the knowledge.
